Brooke Fraser

“What a Beautiful Name”

Posted on

Sometimes the Lord calls your attention to something special.  Four times in the past week I have heard the following song, three times in worship services and once on contributor-header-brooke-ligertwood-1500x610-1YouTube.  This great worship song by Brooke (Fraser) Ligertwood and Ben Fielding strikes at the heart with its reminder that Jesus is altogether lovely, worthy of praise

The psalmist says, “One thing I have asked from the Lord, that I shall seek:  That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life,  to behold the beauty of the Lord,  and to meditate in His temple” (Psalm 27:4).  The very name of Jesus awakens that desire to see Him in His glorious beauty and then to reflect on the wonder in what we see!

So watch, listen and enjoy as Brooke herself leads a worshiping people to sing with her.

“Desert Song” – sung by Chelsea Nisbett

One of my favorite songs by Brooke Fraser is “Desert Song.”  God calls us to give praise even when life looks dry and no fruit appears to be growing on the vine.  After lamenting the hard times, the prophet Habakkuk commits to rejoice in the Lord.

Hab. 3:17-18  Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail and the fields yield no food, the flock be cut off from the fold and there be no herd in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the LORD; I will take joy in the God of my salvation.

Fair-weather followers of Christ are glad to praise Him in times of ease.  Faithful followers rejoice even when life gets hard and give thanks and praise to the God who is worthy to be exalted at all times!

Here is a new arrangement of “Desert Song” I just discovered yesterday by a Canadian artist named Chelsea Nisbett from Halifax, Nova Scotia. I love her version, her band and her fresh approach to this favorite song!

Fun tunes on a Saturday night…

Sometimes Christian artists get a hard time when they step outside their specific ministry focus and just perform some fun music.  Two artists I have grown to appreciate over the past 18 months are Dara MacLean and Brooke Fraser.  Both have been very effective in writing and singing songs that convey a strong Christ-centered message.  But they both have also developed quite a following outside the normal Christian music circles.

Here are a couple of recent finds that I think you will enjoy.  One is a cover of an old song given new life and a new audience by Dara while the other is an original song by Brooke.

First, “Ain’t Nothing Like the Real Thing,” performed in a cool live studio recording by Dara MacLean who in this song does a duet with Jason Eskridge.  Love this version!

Second, Brooke Fraser sings one of her own big hits.  From her beginnings in New Zealand, she now has a world-wide platform for her music and recently has played before sold out crowds in several international arenas. This is a song called “Coachella.”
